Objective

The objective was to create two racing banners for a motorsport racing event. The client for this project was the Rockstar Motocross Nationals who needed vertical and horizontal racing banners that would promote the race. The client wanted a design that was energetic, fun and would capture the feeling of movement. The client wanted the banners to excite people and make them want to come to the racing event.

Process

The first part of the project was to take an image of a racer that the client wanted to use and remove the past branding off them. This process was a challenge because the client wanted this specific image therefore I had to clean the image while making sure the final result was clean and professional looking. I accomplished the final photo by using techniques inside Photoshop that included using the clone stamp tool, the patch tool, content aware fill and painting with brushes.

The next part of the process that was challenging was deciding on the look and feel of the banners. I decided that an abstract background that strongly used color to convey a mood was the best choice. I came up with three concepts and decided the first was the best option for the mood of the race. The first concept has bold appealing colors that contrast with one another and give off a feeling of excitement that motocross races have when watching them. The final color palette works by showing an earthy mood that helps to sum up what motocross racing is all about; getting dirty.

The layout was another challenge because I had two banners to design, one being vertical and the other one being horizontal. I had to be aware of the two different layouts and all the important content that needed to be present on both banners. I had to do a lot of playing around with hierarchy and placement with all the content to find an acceptable final layout.
