Objective
The objective for the project was to create a new hot sauce flavor for a company of our creation. The client ended up being Hot Pepps and they wanted a label design that would stand out and promote their new Chili and Bacon hot sauce. The client wanted the design to be fun and intriguing thereby drawing customers to buying the product.
Process
The design process started with coming logo ideas for a hot sauce company. In the beginning I kept ideas open; they ranged from having fun characters to graphics that simply supported the brand name. In the final choice for the company logo I chose Hot Pepps because it had a lot of possibilities and it was a fun design that could be played with. I did a sketch of the label and how it would be laid out for the final design considering a lot of information had to be on the label. I kept the clients’ want of a fun design in mind which resulted in the idea of a pepper and bacon duking it out.
The one challenge with designing the label was the amount of information both legal and bilingual that had to fit on the label for effective readability. I had to play around with the hierarchy and placement of typography elements to find an appropriate final readable look.This was important so that everything looked and felt right when viewing the final product. All the design elements and color choices were designed to evolve around a hot playful theme. This is why I decided the colors needed to be warm and the typography for the names and flavors needed a fun essetic to them. The final illustration was kept simple with a gradient background so the main focus was on the two foods duking it out allowing the customer to see them first.
