Objective
The objective was to design a coffee cup, banner and coffee bag for a new coffee shop that had recently opened in London Ontario. The coffee shop was one you created mine being UFO Cafe. The new store needed these different design elements to promote themselves and their coffee to the wider public to get customers.
Process
I knew that I wanted a unique look and feel for the coffee shop because of their rising popularity. I kept my mind open at the start and sketched out multiple different ideas, while still thinking of something unique. I played around with having characters being the face of the coffee shop or just plain typography. I liked the idea of UFO Cafe as it bridged both aspects of graphics and typography together. The idea of UFO Cafe worked because it was both unique and different from all the other coffee shops, this would help it stand out from the rest.
The one problem in the earlier designs was that the logo was too complicated. The logo had too many elements within it and it needed some refining. The final logo shows a polished and simplified design that is easier to take in. The colour palette was one that I kept simple that way the client could build a brand around the palette.
When designing the coffee cup label the challenge was making the label simple and readable. I decided that a simple graphic pattern was the best option as this could play off the space theme. The final design is a circle pattern that resembles stars and planets. This final design compliments UFO Cafe and their brand theme resulting in a fun cup.

The starting point for designing the coffee bag was to come up with a composition and illustration that would promote the new coffee flavor. For the final design I knew that playing with the object of the UFO was going to help promote the coffee, so I played with that idea in the planning stages of the project. Out of my sketches I felt that the second one was the best choice as it depicts a UFO exploring a new honey goo planet and I think this parallelled nicely with the idea that the consumer would be exploring this new coffee flavor.
The drawing process when creating this illustration was difficult when it came to adding color to the piece. I wanted the right color palette to draw the customer to the coffee bag. I experimented with different color palettes after I got the line work done for the illustration. In the end product I chose the complimentary colors of blue and orange along with different hues of the two colors as the final color palette. The colors help to bring out the final illustration and make the bag stand out from a distance therefore drawing the consumers eye.
