Objective
The client wanted a unique and fun event pass and a landing page to help promote their event. The event was Roam With Dinos at Budweiser Gardens. The client wanted their event to draw and excite people and also make it a memorable experience through creating a one of a kind pass for people attending.
Process
The process started with thumbnails and coming up with unique looks and ideas for the pass. I wanted to create something that would bring the sense of adventure and make people have the wonder of a kid. Dinosaurs are fascinating and intrigue a lot of people, this is why I chose to do the raptor hatching out of the egg as the final design. I found that the generic egg, footprint and dinosaur skull had been overdone instead wanting something more special.
The one obstacle was creating the unique dyeline of the pass and having all the other design elements work with it. The process to create the pass was a lot of image referencing and outlining sketches to get the final shape. Since we do not entirely know what dinosaurs looked like I had the fun process of filling in the details with how I imagined the Velciraptor would look. I achieved the final illustration through a lot of image referencing of what other artists created and made personal decisions on what I thought was appropriate.
Another design challenge was finding a balance between the egg details and the typography on the pass. Very early on in the design process the two would clash resulting in poor readability. I overcame this by a lot of adjusting and playing around with both elements until there was a proper readability balance.
